“2 projects” is a monographic exhibition of Piotr Zbierski, the winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award 2012. Along with already acclaimed and winning series “Pass by me”, we present the very current project “Love has to be reinvented”.

The “Pass by me” series is the final segment of the long-term ‘White Elephants” project. The majority of photographs was shot on journeys through Eastern Europe and India. They show accidental meetings and fleeting relationships with strangers. Zbierski registered them as an observer, distancing himself from the reality: this is the only way to show the most important thing – closed world of human emotions. And although at first sight portfolio appears to have a random structure, an underlying order and relationship exists between the images. Together they build an entirety and relate a story of happiness, memories and encounters characterized
by the photographer’s own particular style.

The series “Love has to be reinvented” is dominated by emotions and harsh pictures. This time Zbierski is negotiating the deepest need of being alone while still being social animal and vice versa in a modern world. It is already distinguished in Piotr’s style: rapprochement, straightaway vision, reaching for the peak of emotionality, leaving technical questions out of the interest, giving the pure meaning at the first glance.

Piotr Zbierski: “I chose photography because it lets me get very close to people. It is the only medium with a directness that lets me show the existence of the imagination in the real world.”

Piotr Zbierski (b.1987) graduated from Photography at National Film School, Łódź, Poland. He was nominated to Deutsche Börse Photography Prize and shortlisted in many other prizes (Les Nuits Photographiques 2012, Terry O’Neill Award) for his series Pass by me.
